During july and august , Accurate Exploration Ltd. conducted a Sparker survey and a marine seismic programme in the Mackenzie River, Northwest Territories, from Hay River to mile , plus approximately thirty-five miles up the Liard River from Fort Simpson. Soil survey is a systematic study of the soil of an area including classification and mapping of the properties and the distribution of various soil units. Systematic soil survey has been carried out for over one hundred years. As in other applied sciences, conceptual and technological advances are making soil survey more reliable, cheaper and useful.

Reconnaissance soil survey of the Slave River Lowland in the Northwest Territories of Canada. [J H Day; Alfred Leahey; Canada. Experimental Farms Service.] -- Approximately 73% of the Slave River Lowland is suitable for potential agricultural development.

Figure 1. Extent of existing soil survey coverage and community study areas. The Slave River Lowland map area (Day, ) is centered on the river valley itself, extending from the Alberta - NWT border northwards to its exit via a large delta into Great Slave Lake. The area is bounded on the south by the Northwest Territories.

Historical and supplemental documents are available below. Printed soil. Abstract. Northern Canada, the vast, sparsely populated region of Canada affected by permafrost, encompasses about half (5 × 10 6 km 2) of the country and includes the Arctic and Subarctic zones and portions of the Boreal region, which is composed of the Northwest Territories, Nunavut (formerly the eastern portion of the Northwest Territories), the Yukon, and the northern portions.

Heringa who moved to Newfoundland from the Alberta Soil Survey in 1was the soil survey head. Northwest Territories and Yukon During the early years of the period, J. Day did reconnaissance soil surveys of the Slave River Delta Liard River valley, and the upper Mackenzie River.

An extensive system of proglacial lakes was created in the Liard, Fort Nelson and Petitot river valleys, linked by spillways that drained meltwater into the Liard River valley and then northward. Liard River valley, near Fort Simpson, Northwest Territories, Canada.

The gauging stations operated by the Water Survey of Canada are identified with solid black boxes. The catchment area of the Blackstone River has recently been revised by the WSC, and this most recent value ( km2) was used for all calculations in this paper.

However. Web Soil Survey (WSS) provides soil data and information produced by the National Cooperative Soil Survey. It is operated by the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) and provides access to the largest natural resource information system in the world.

NRCS has soil maps and data available online for more than 95 percent of the. lower Liard River valley, near Fort Simpson, Northwest Territories, Canada. The gauging stations operated by the Water Survey of Canada are identified with solid black boxes.

The catchment area of the Blackstone River has recently been revised by the WSC, and this most recent value ( km2) was used for all calculations in this paper. We observed a group of 18 wood bison, of mixed sex and age classes, swimming across a km wide section of the Liard River on 16 July Water levels and flow rates were above the long-term.

The study was conducted at Scotty Creek (61°18′N, °18′W) located in the lower Liard River valley, km south of Fort Simpson, Northwest Territories, Canada ().The basin is typical of the numerous wetland-dominated, discontinuous permafrost basins in this northern region, where interconnected wetlands store and transmit runoff water received from peat-covered uplands.

Subarctic ecosystems are experiencing rapid changes as a result of climate warming and more frequent and severe disturbances. There is considerable uncertainty regarding ecological trajectories following disturbance in forested ecosystems underlain by permafrost because their structure and function is controlled by feedbacks among soil conditions, vegetation, and ground thermal regime.

This paper presents one way of describing such intricacy‐by a graph of variance against area sampled‐and an exploratory attempt to determine its form for OM, N, coarse and fine sand, silt, clay, gravel, available P and K, CEC, exch.

It is a key component of the comprehensive urban soil survey, an important element in the assessment.
